Sue Jacques, finance director of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, has been named Finance Director of the Year at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Awards 2008, sponsored by Public Sector Consultants. The awards recognise achievement in heath service management with a particular focus on finance. Ms Jacques was one of eight winners to receive awards at the awards ceremony in central London, held during the HFMA’s annual conference. The award acknowledged her role in achieving significant efficiencies in tandem with clinical staff and achieving foundation trust status.

Ms Jacques, who has been director of finance at the trust since it was formed in 2002, is the second winner of the award, which was launched last year. Judges were impressed by her leadership in changing the trust’s financial position, as well as her commitment to customer service.
