David Poynton appointed Chairman of Summit Healthcare (Dudley) Limited

We are pleased to announce that David Poynton, Chairman of support services provider, Public Sector Consultants Limited, has been appointed Chairman of Summit Healthcare (Dudley) Limited and will take over the reins on 1 February 2009. Summit is the private company that provides the vast majority of non-clinical services to the Dudley Group of Hospitals Foundation Trust based in the West Midlands.

The Summit Healthcare consortium includes Sir Robert McAlpine, Interserve and the Bank of Scotland. The contract which runs for 40 years is for the efficient provision of these vital support services of which most are provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and by way of example, the statistics below show the service volumes managed annually for the Trust by Summit and its three partner organisations, Siemens Healthcare Services, Interserve Facilities Management and Sunlight Laundries:

  • approximately 5000 calls are logged by the Helpdesk monthly
  • 2.6 million items of clean linen are delivered annually
  • 552,000 meals are served to patients each month (excluding snack boxes and visitor / staff meals)
  • porters respond to approximately 2,000 requests per month
  • the mailroom handles over 7,000 external and internal items of mail each day
  • 700 tonnes of clinical waste, 36 tonnes of ‘green’ (confidential) waste and 850 tonnes of ‘black’ (domestic) waste is collected for disposal every year


David Poynton, prior to joining Public Sector Consultants, worked extensively in the West Midlands as both Chief Executive and Finance Director at the Birmingham and Black Country SHA and the, now, Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.
